What are you doing?

Our first comedy show fundraiser was a Toy Drive for Foster Kids.  Since 2013, we’ve been collecting toys and giving them to foster children.  In December 2019, we opened our first comedy club to raise more money and get more toy donations.  We planned a “Christmas in July Toy Drive” to kick off our Annual Toy Drive, but 2020 had different ideas.

We closed.

Even so, we had this pretty cool idea to start collecting toys earlier so we could get them to more kids.  With the pandemic, we switched things up and decided to raise money to buy Art Kits for Foster Kids for the summer.

We were able to get 300 art kits out to foster kids through Clinical Support Options located in western Massachusetts.

This year, with the invention of Clubhouse, things have changed.  While in a room called “The Winning Network,” Jess Miller met Sam Henderson who sent her a message on Instagram with the suggestion of doing a comedy show.

Jess said “Sure” then added, “Let’s do a fundraiser!”

Sam said, “OK!”

The two talked and decided to partner up and help each other out.  That is how the 24 HR Clubhouse Comedy Festival Fundraiser for Foster Kids was born.

For those of you who don’t know what Clubhouse is, it’s a drop in audio app and is currently available to iPhone users only.  iPhone users can download the app by visiting the app store.  You will need an invitation from a friend to use the app (or someone will have to sponsor you).  Unfortunately, I am out of invites so please check with your friends!

In addition to buying art kits for foster kids, we are also donating a portion of the proceeds to The Jodie O’Shea House in Bali, Indonesia, so they can get food, supplies and essentials.  We hope to raise enough money to send Art Kits to their kids as well.  If you are in a position to help us with shipping, please let us know!

When is it?

Saturday, May 1 at 9 pm EST and to Sunday, May 2 at 9 pm.

We have 80+ comedians, including Jess, who are donating their time to tell jokes to anyone who will listen on Clubhouse.  Be prepared.  We do not censor comedians and some parts of the show could, can and may very well be Rated R due to content and language.  If you’re squeamish with that kind of stuff, you may not want to be in the room.  But if you like to laugh, then join us!  Laugh away.  Have fun. Donate!

How are you doing this?

First, we have to raise money to buy supplies.  Once we have raised enough money, we will purchase art supplies and create kits.  As foster parents sign up, we will send art kits directly to their foster kids.  Art kits will a combination the following supplies:

    • Colored Pencils

    • Sketch Pad

    • Construction Paper

    • Glue Sticks

    • Scissors

    • Pencils

    • Pencil Sharpeners

    • Erasers

    • Markers

    • Paint Kits

    • Ruler

    • Coloring Books

    • Chalk

    • Fat Markers for younger kids.

Why are you doing this?

While it is the policy of the Department of Children and Families (DCF) to reunite children and parents, it is still a traumatic experience for a child to go through.  2020 was a tough year for EVERYONE.  Imagine being a kid who has been taken away from their family.  That’s enough trauma, but add in isolation because of Covid.

We wanted to do something about that and offer some hope to young people in this situation.

Art has been a proven calming affect on children and helps them cope.  This is the purpose of sending Art Kits to Foster Kids.

How Can I Help?

Our first goal is to collect as many donations as possible.  The more donations we receive, the more Art Kits we will be able to send out.

If you have any connections with mail delivery services, we would love to talk to you as this is one of our largest expenses.

How much are the Art Kits?

We estimate each Art Kit will cost us approximately $23 with shipping.  Art kits will include $15 worth of art supplies.  In addition to Art Kits and depending on how much we raise, we estimate shipping to be $8 per kit.

When will you deliver the art kits?
